Here's the skinny: I've been near 300 lbs. for years and need to lose weight. I'm married to a wonderful lady, and we have a family. One of our boys often asks if I'll run with him. I've always had to tell him, "No." In August of '09, my wife learned about a couch-to-5k running program, and I agreed to try it with her. This blog chronicles our progress on that training program. I hope I'll soon be able to surprise my son by telling him, "Yes, I'll go running with you!"

  2. What a beautiful family.
I imagine that it must have been difficult to keep the secret until the end. But worth it!

    Congratulations, you were amazing!

Although I am not one of the "children", I am very proud of Mr. and Mrs. F.

    Hugs from Brasil, Ana

Ps: For me it will always be Mr. and Mrs. F. :)

  3. Andrew, I just went to mapmyrun to see what the elevation was of our race.
The one mile section that we ran on Pioneer (the road we were on until we turned back to run trails through the school) started at a -6% and ended at a 3%. That's an increase of 9% in one mile! That was not an easy run.

  8. I am most impressed that you were able to find the time to workout and keep it a secret with such a large family to care for. You have a wonderful family.

  9. Mare - Thank you! Our family is a lot of fun, crazy but fun!

Mickey & Minnie -- It has proved to me that anyone can find time to do somthing they find important. For years, I made excuses why I didnt have time or effort to exercise. But the right program and motivation made all the difference and you know, I found that I made time for something I wanted to do.
