Here's the skinny: I've been near 300 lbs. for years and need to lose weight. I'm married to a wonderful lady, and we have a family. One of our boys often asks if I'll run with him. I've always had to tell him, "No." In August of '09, my wife learned about a couch-to-5k running program, and I agreed to try it with her. This blog chronicles our progress on that training program. I hope I'll soon be able to surprise my son by telling him, "Yes, I'll go running with you!"

Our next 5k?

I don't mean to county our chickens before they hatch, but I just learned that some people in the next town north of us (about 7 miles) are organizing a 5k that will be held on Thanksgiving morning.  The entry fee will be only $7 to cover the cost of a t-shirt.  If all goes well this Saturday, I think I may just sign up for that one, too.

  3. We'd need to coerce our eldest daughter if we are to become a running family...

  4. You guys are so awesome! I initially wanted to run a turkey trot on Thanksgiving day too but I fell way behind in my training and it's only a few days away and I am sooooo not ready. I'm soooooo disappointed in myself but I know there are plenty more 5k's to come, God willing. Just know that I am soooo inspired by you both!

BTW week 4 killed me. I didn't get in one good workout with it. Help!!!!! LOL!!!

  5. bunny -- I just went back to see how we fared with week 4. It was hard! Both of us were dealign with some injury, so it made it more challenging. One of the best things I found that helped, was to focus on each set rather than the whole. And to try each days workouts before committing to retrying any week

Are you going too fast and burning out? Can you speak while running? Remember that the point of C25K isntspeed but endurance. Slow down your pace, even if it feels dreadfully slow and concentrate on your breathing.

    Hope that helps!
